Connecting Your QuickBooks

Connecting is quick, secure, and gives CleanupOwl the access it needs to scan your books for issues. Here's everything you need to know.

Is My Data Safe?

Yes. Your security is our top priority. Here's how we protect your data:

Read-Only Access

CleanupOwl can only view your QuickBooks data. We cannot create, edit, or delete any transactions, invoices, or records in your books.

Bank-Level Encryption

Your connection uses the same encryption technology that banks use. Your login credentials are never stored on our servers.

Official Intuit Partner

We use Intuit's official connection system (OAuth 2.0). This is the same secure method used by all trusted QuickBooks apps.

You're always in control. You can disconnect CleanupOwl from your QuickBooks at any time, and we'll immediately lose access to your data.

How to Connect

    Click "Connect to QuickBooks"

    You'll see this green button on your CleanupOwl dashboard after signing up.

    Sign in to QuickBooks

    You'll be taken to Intuit's official login page. Use your normal QuickBooks login.

    Choose your company

    If you have multiple QuickBooks companies, select the one you want to scan.

    Click "Connect"

    Review the permissions (read-only access) and confirm. You'll be redirected back to CleanupOwl.

Connecting Multiple Companies

If you have more than one business or QuickBooks company, you can connect them all to CleanupOwl. Each company appears as a separate card on your dashboard.

  • Click "Connect New Company" on your dashboard to add another business
  • Each company is scanned and managed separately
  • Your plan determines how many companies you can connect

What If I Need to Reconnect?

Sometimes QuickBooks connections expire (usually after 100 days of not using CleanupOwl). If this happens, you'll see a yellow "Needs Reconnect" message on your company card.

Don't worry! Reconnecting is quick and easy. Just click "Reconnect" and sign in to QuickBooks again. All your scan history and data will still be there.

How to Disconnect

You can remove CleanupOwl's access to your QuickBooks anytime:

From CleanupOwl

Go to Settings → Company Connections → Click "Disconnect" next to the company.

From QuickBooks

In QuickBooks Online, go to Settings → Manage Users → Apps → Find CleanupOwl → Click "Disconnect"

Common Questions

Do I need to be an admin?

Yes, you need admin or accountant access to the QuickBooks company to connect it.

Can my bookkeeper connect for me?

Yes! If your bookkeeper has accountant access to your QuickBooks, they can connect and manage CleanupOwl on your behalf.

Will connecting affect my QuickBooks?

No. Connecting CleanupOwl doesn't change anything in your QuickBooks. We only read your data to find issues.
